We were recently up in the Top End of Australia in Darwin. Tony has a very old friend up there who owns IndoPacific Marine Education and Discovery Centre. A catch up has been long overdue and a dive in the crocodile infested waters was on the cards. So we hit Kakadu and Litchfield running and tried to cover most of the tourist sites in the shortest possible time we had available!
Cruising Yellow Water Billabong and South Alligator River for Crocodiles
Dane, our trusty local travel agent from Escape Travel Kawana had booked us a midday cruise (yep, midday, nothing like cooking in the heat of the midday sun looking for basking crocodiles and sleeping birdlife!) with Yellow Water Cruises, out of Cooinda in Kakadu.
The video shows you the highlights of the scenery and birdlife we came across.
AND CROCODILE ACTION TO DIE FOR!
But the real action that woke us all up was the large saltwater crocodile on the riverbed sitting in all his glory on a feed of a HUGE barramundi. If that wasn’t enough to have witnessed, not just the grinning crocodile so pleased with himself, but the SIZE of the barra he had caught, we were then to witness a crocodile fight! Yep, another croc spied him, or rather the barramundi, and came in for a closer look, to ponder and pinch. And pinch he did. It was all over in a flash. No snarling teeth baring action, just a quick submission “‘cos I’m bigger than you and hand it over mate!”. Check out this amazing video of the action – stunning!
